An incredible 181 members of the House of Representatives have signed on as co-sponsors of a bill that will
likely lead to state¬hood for Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Border Security Council is sound¬ing the alarm.
"Proponents
of Puerto Rico statehood only need 37 more Members of Congress to support the ‘Puerto Rican Democracy Act' (H.R. 2499)
in order for it to pass," reports U.S. Border Security Council Executive Director Brice Griffin. "This is a terrible
bill that was designed to make Puerto Rico the 51st state."
Pedro Pierluisi, Puerto Rico's representative
in Congress authored the controversial measure and has succeeded in pushing his bill through the committee.
"Next step for this bill is the House floor," says Griffin. "We have to act now to stop this hideous legislation."
Under the bill, Puerto Ricans would have to cast ballots on two different referendum measures that
are written by supporters of Puerto Rico statehood. "Basically this bill calls for rigged elections that favor activists
who want Puerto Rico to be a state," Griffin explains. "These people are going to great lengths to get two more
left-wing ‘open borders' Senators."
The U.S. Border Security Coun¬cil is leading the
opposition to this bill and any other measure that will lead to statehood for the mostly Spanish-speaking island territory.
"Some months ago we began mobilizing the American people to push back against this bill,"
Grif¬fin says. "However, we need to do much, much more. This bill al¬ready has a great deal of bipartisan support,
and it will be very, very hard to stop it now without the help of the American people." Griffin reports that the news
media and even many other pro-national security groups have been strangely silent on the issue of Puerto Rico statehood. "The
American people don't realize how close we are to having a Spanish-speaking 51st state shoved down our throats," says
Griffin. "Ameri¬cans can not afford to make Puerto Rico a state and our efforts are aimed at making sure the American
people and their elected representa¬tives understand that fact."
"The White House and
the Congressional Hispanic Caucus are getting ready to try to steam roll this bill through Congress," Grif¬fin warns.
"From my vote tally and from the way the pro-illegal alien supporters are acting, I believe they are getting close to
being able to pass S.9."
