Judge Overules Hazelton Pennsylvannia Illegals
Ordinance An activist federal judge has
struck down the highly successful and popular anti-illegal alien ordinance in Hazelton, Pennsylvannia, claiming the law was
unconstitutional.
The law, passed by the city
in 2006, imposed harsh penalities on landlords who rented housing to illegal aliens or employers who hired
them.
Hazelton was being overrun with illegal immigrants before the ordinance took effect. Illegals were
straining the ability of the city to provide basic public services, and crime was soaring. Since
adoption of the ordinance, many illegals have moved on, and the towns qualitity of life has improved markedly.
Attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union filed suit against the
town, claiming the ordinance violated the U.S. Constitution, despite the fact that from the town's perspective they were
only helping to enforce federal laws. Hazelton plans to appeal the judge's ruling.
Spending Bill Prohibits
"Sanctuary Cities" from Receiving Federal Funds. The House just approved the 2008 Commerce, Science and Justice appropriations' bill that
includes a prohibition on "sanctuary cities" from receiving federal appropriations.
The amendment by Representative Thelma Drake of Virginia is aimed at punishing any state or locality that refuses to follow
federal immigration law.
A number of localities have declared themselves "sanctuary cities" for illegal
aliens. If agreed to by the Senate and signed by the House, this legislation wil help end these
outlandish policies.
Key House Democrat Says Immigration Reform Dead for At least Seven
Years U.S. Representative Rahm Emmanuel says that immigration reform of any
kind will not pass until the second term of a Democratic Presidency. Emmanuel, the head of the House Democratic
Caucus and architect of the Democratic takeover of Congress in November, was reacting to the defeat of the bipartisan
"Comprehensive Immigration Reform" legislation that featured amnesty for illegal aliens.
Emmanuel's "if we can't have amnesty then we will do nothing about illegal aliens" attitude mirrors the
Bush administration's position now that their amnesty bill has been defeated by ordinary Americans.

Letters of Protest from U.S. Border Supporters Pour In Nearly 100,000 letters of protest have been returned by U.S. Border Security Council
supporters demanding action from the federal government in securing the nation's borders.
"The demand for our leaders to finally do something about our porous border is growing by the day," says U.S. Border
spokesman Brice Griffin. "The number of letters of protest that are arriving at our offices every day just proves
that fact," she adds. The Council plans to continue to bundling letters of protest
and delivering them to the White House and Congress as part of a major effort to push for more border security legislation. "Right now on Capitol Hill, border security supporters are assessing their next move. First, we
must make sure the administration and the illegal immigrant lobby are not able to revive their push for amnesty for 12
million illegals," explains Griffin. "Then, we must get behind a strong border security bill that seals the
southern border once and for all," she explains. All U.S. Border supporters are urged
to keep up the pressure on Congress. Call your Congressman and U.S. Senators at 202-224-3121, and urge them to support
tough border security legislation.
